Special Assembly (Science Day)

A special assembly was conducted on March 1ST 2024 to mark the occasion of science day. President of science club Dr. Anupama Bhargava and H.O.D Fr. Florence Purty paid homage to eminent scientist Dr. C. V. Raman. Dr. Anupama Bhargava, President of science club, in her speech highlighted the importance of indigenous technologies in progress of the nation. This was followed by a documentary that was based on the theme ‘Role of Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat’. Fr. Florence Purty, H.O.D, while addressing the assembly reminded students about the countless benefits that we reap from science and technology but also cautioned about its adverse effects if not handled with wisdom and care. All the students of B.Ed science club played pivotal role in organizing the assembly.

On February 10th, 2024, the Eco-Club "Dharameet" of Department of Education, St. Xavier's College, Ranchi in collaboration with IQAC hosted a sensitization program and organized an inter-departmental competition dedicated to environmental awareness on Zero Waste Management with the theme “अपशिस्ट व्यविस्थत तो पयार्वरण सुरक्षित ”. The event was graced by the presence of the Chief Guest, Mr. Ameet Kumar, Municipal Commissioner, Ranchi, Dr. Fr. Nabor Lakra S.J., Principal of St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi, Dr. Shiv Kumar, Co-ordinator of IQAC and Dr. Fr. Florence Purty S.J., Head of the Department.

Book Fair Visit

St Xavier’s College, Ranchi (Department of B.Ed) Book Fair Visit

On January 4, 2024,The first year batch(2023-25) and second-year batch (2022-2024) students from the Department of Education at St. Xavier's College, Ranchi, undertook a visit to a book fair held in the zila school grounds. The main purpose of this visit was to explore diverse kinds of books that could enhance knowledge and skills of the future educators. The book fair featured numerous stalls catering to different genres that had separate book stalls such as the Fiction section, showcasing works by prominent writers from both India and abroad, Religious texts, Books written by various renowned Hindi writers, and a Kids section offering poems and moral storybooks. There was a dedicated stall with books authored by tribal writers, which incorporated historical and cultural elements, contributing to a richer understanding of indigenous perspectives. .

The fair also had a range of genres such as competitive exam books, Hindi poetry, and spiritual books and autobiographies. This visit to the book fair proved to be a valuable opportunity for the students to explore and discover various useful books aligning with the educational goals of their course that would help them to be well-rounded and informed future educators.

Dr. Father Florence Purty (Department Head), Dr. Nandita Pandey (Activity in-charge), and Dr. Anupama Bhargava were present with the students during the program. Other professors like Sudha Rani Khalko, Pankaj Kumar, Jagbandhu Mahato, Kavita Topno, Ruma Bhattacharya, Ankita Basu, and Shilpa Kindo were also present there.

Annual Sports Meet 2023

St Xavier’s College, Ranchi. Annual Sports Meet 2023 was organized by the Dept. of Physical Education & Sports from 28th January to 4th February 2023 at college ground. The meet was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Smt. Asunta Lakra (International Hockey Player, Selector, Indian Hockey Team). Torch relay ran by the college athletes and the Oath was taken by Virendra Toppo along with all the athletes. All the events were conducted by the help of teaching staff, non teaching staff and committee members. Prizes were given by the Chief Guest and by the Teachers.

Gender based violence

St. Xavier's College, Ranchi

Gender based violence was the topic of the talk organised by the department of Education on December 16, 2023. Ms. Babita Sinha from NGO CREA and Ms.Barnali Chakraborty from NGO YUVA were the eminent speakers. The session encompassed issues like gender dynamics, patriarchy and domestic violence. It also enlightened audiences about the constitutional rights safeguarding women. Two very stirring short films;It takes two to succeed and Boys don't cry were presented during the session.

Students of B.Ed. were active and keen participants in the whole event. Such sessions are prolific not only for generating awareness but also to eradicate vices prevailing in the society, stated Fr.Florence Purty (HOD) as he addressed students.The program was coordinated by Dr.Anupama Bhargava and all faculty members graced the occassion.

Celebration of Birth Anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda JANJATIYA GAURAV DIWAS

St. Xavier’s College, Ranchi organized Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas at the occasion of Birth Day Anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda on 15th November, 2022. Shri Mahadeo Toppo was the Chief Guest for the occasion. In his key note address he highlighted the significance of ‘ULGULAAN’ of Birsa Munda. Dr. Fr. Nabor Lakra SJ the Principal and Dr. Fr. Alexius Ekka SJ the Rector of the College were the Guests of honor. Various competitions like Drawing Competition, Speech Competition and Essay Writing Competition were organized under the care of the Committee for the students. About 182 registered online for the various competitions.

International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples

St. Xavier's College, Ranchi

The World’s Indigenous People’s Day was celebrated with great fanfare on August 9, 2022 in the college auditorium. It was planned and organized by AICUF College unit. The theme of the celebration was “Tribal Languages and Life.” The purpose of organizing this celebration was to make students aware of Tribal Culture, Language, Values, Dress and Food. Various groups of students presented cultural dance, songs and fashion show. All the participants were in attractive tribal dress and Guests were served with Tribal Food prepared by the students.

The Director and Scholars of Tribal Research Centre at St. Xavier’s College presented different dimensions of Tribal Life in five different languages and highlighted the significance of Tribal Languages. Various eminent speakers like Fr. Rector, Fr. Vice-Principal, AICUF state Advisor, Mrs. Asunta Lakra the former Indian Hockey captain, Experts on tribal issues spoke on different tribal issues to help students understand tribal way of life.

Guests were welcome with Tribal Dance and washing the feet. In the beginning of the program, the preamble of the Indian Constitution was recited and lamps were lighted by the guests and the tributes paid to the Adivasi stalwarts of the past on their portraits by esteemed guests.

Tree plantation outreach programme

IQAC St Xavier’s College, Ranchi (Department of Botany)Tree plantation outreach programme by St. Xavier’s College Ranchi. The green campus committee of St. Xavier’s College Ranchi took initiative to organise one day tree plantation drive on 13th February 2022. 50 students of different associations of the college like NCC, NSS, AICUF, Rotaract club, CLC, Eco Task Force and students from the Department of Botany, led by Fr. Principal, Nabor Lakra s.j. along with Fr. Roshan Ba’a, s.j. Fr. Prabhat Kennedy Soreng, s.j. Dr. Marcus Barla went to Konmenjra at the proposed new site of St. Xavier’s College Simdega and planted 400 hundred mahogany plants.
